After news of COVID-19 canceling schools across the country hit, about a million resources for first-time homeschool parents quickly covered the internet. But don’t forget about the kids! The transition to doing schoolwork from home will be a challenge for the students as well. Today our homeschooling family sat down and brainstormed some suggestions for other kids who will be starting school at home next week. Without further ado, here are the “Top 10 Things to Make Homeschooling Easier for Kids (by kids).”
By Elijah and Kinley Pollock
# 10.) Listen to music! Get a Spotify playlist made and jam out. But because everyone focuses differently and siblings tend to have opposite or different musical taste, listen with ear buds.
# 9.) Make a deal with your parents. Set a certain time to play video games or have screen time. Typically this is after your school work is finished.
# 8.) Take regular snack breaks.
# 7.) When you get frustrated (and you will get frustrated) doodle, scribble, draw, or do something else that helps take your mind off what is frustrating you.
# 6.) Eat pancakes for breakfast! (or something you really enjoy)
# 5.) Use Art Hub for Art class or a break. It’s an amazing website!
# 4.) Try to finish all your work by lunch so the day doesn’t drag on, even if that means eating a later lunch.
# 3.) Sleep in! Or get up and do something in your room for awhile--read, Legos, toys, etc.
# 2.) Get outside or get exercise. Shoot hoops, go for a bike or scooter ride. Go fishing.
# 1.) Start a hobby. Eli recently started an Ebay account (3:23 Cards) to sell basketball cards. Kinley loves to do crafts or play the piano or ukulele.
